Dear You

I hope you woke up this morning and looked at your reflection in the mirror with that pretty little smile that God so loves. Because YOU are imperfectly perfect! You’ve been fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)!

Just take a look at yourself in the mirror – those battle scars on your body that you got from life experiences; those wrinkles, pimples and stubborn blemishes on your skin that you acquired from the stress or from hormones or from the years you’ve lived; those stretch marks on your tummy or waist or booty; that random number on your weighing scale telling you how much weight you must gain or lose; the little grey strands of hair that came out of nowhere with each passing year; the color of your skin…all of these, I hope you know, are your perfections.

You might be tall or short, buff or skinny or curvy, adventurous or laid-back, extroverted or introverted or ambiverted, gay or straight, male or female or transgender, fashionable or have no sense of fashion whatsoever, you might have a detailed plan of your future or you may just be trying to figure things out, whatever and whoever you are – YOU ARE YOU!

You see, beauty is not something that can be so easily defined. When you see your reflection, I hope you realize that there is not one person in this whole wide world that looks, thinks, feels and loves the way you do. Don’t you think that is so damn beautiful?

You are unique. You are strong-willed and passionate. You are powerful. You are brave. You are courageous. You get through the day even when you’re in pain. You care for others even when you’re struggling to find time for yourself. You forgive even though you’re hurting. You keep going and working hard even when you just want to give up. You fight for what you want. You are complex. And moody. And messy. And weird.

You falter and make mistakes along the way. But you get up and start over again, if need be. Do not ever get tired of doing good, for you will reap at the proper time if you don’t give up (Galatians 6:9). You are loved beyond measure. You are worthy of all good things. You are authentic. You can never be replicated, let alone replaced. You are amazing just the way you are. So NEVER stop being you.

In everything you do make sure there are sparks, or better still, fireworks of joy in your heart. Continue to follow your passions and dreams… The crazier they are, the better life is in the long run. Speak of all the stories you have that made you who you are today. People talk but you got to do what you got to do! Never compare yourself to people especially the ones you see on screen for to each their own journey. You know you and God knows you.

Be yourself and let people be themselves.
